History of Virtualization

IBM was developing hypervisors in the 1960s.
SIMMON and CP-40
The formal requirements for virtualization were laid out in a 1974 paper (Popek and Goldberg).
In the 1990s, VMware was created, offering type 1 and type 2 hypervisors.
Other products: Xen, KVM, VirtualBox, Hyper-V, Parallels.
